I love Thanksgiving. Probably more than most people. I get a little sad when it is overshadowed by Christmas. But the older I get, the faster time seems to go by and ever since I became a parent, it feels as if, instead of Thanksgiving being overshadowed, it is simply a part of the colossal mutant holiday called Hallo-Thanks-Christmas-New Year! They fall so close together it seems once you hit October it’s an ongoing holiday until January.
Candy, pie, Christmas cookies and champagne … Oh My!!
It’s so easy to get swept up in the holiday madness and consumed by the never ending to do list, that we forget or can’t find the time to give Thanksgiving its due. After all, Thanksgiving has an important role to play in the end of year celebrations.
I know it’s cliché to say what I am thankful for most every year is my family, but cliché or not, it’s not any less true. I am blessed to be a part of a large family and even more blessed that a large portion of that family lives within an hour driving radius. But it doesn’t matter to me that I see them often, my favorite part of Thanksgiving isn’t the pie, but being together with the family God has blessed me to be a part of.
Side note: The only pie I like is my mother’s buttermilk pie, it was also my granddaddy’s favorite. Other than that … I don’t like pie.
Aside from what I am thankful for every year I try to take the time to sit and think about what is special about this past year that I am thankful for. This year has been a blessed year for our little family, that is for sure, but there are a few particular blessings that stand out to me the most.
~ The most significant for our family is that my other half has completed nursing school and is now rocking his new job as an RN! I have always known my husband to be naturally hard-working and ambitious, but watching him this year take on full time school AND work, allowing me to continue being stay at home mom/entrepreneur, has shown me the extent of how driven and selfless my man is. I could not be more proud to be his wife and I am tremendously thankful for every single sacrifice he has made for the well being of our family.
~ A much more recent blessing … my best friend, who is a HUGE contributor to E.K.P, and an amazing mother to three amazing little boys, delivered a beautiful healthy baby GIRL! This precious little angel, born just a few days ago, doesn’t even know yet that she just won the family lottery! This little girl was fiercely prayed for by many, but none more than her mommy, who is smart, joyful, strong and beautiful inside and out. I am blessed to call this woman my best friend and I am over the moon to share in the joy of an answered prayer. She is mom of only boys no more!
~ Another significant event of this year is that Red’s Reflections became Erin Kaifetz Photography. This ended up being a blessing in disguise. I asked God to bless my business and he answered my prayer in a surprising way by setting me on this path. I was extremely hesitant to make this change but, through prayer and consideration, I made the leap and I don’t regret it for a second. A year ago I never would have had the courage to make this huge change, so I consider it immense growth and improvement for me.
And of course, I am thankful for you, my readers, fans, followers, clients, supporters, motivators, whatever category you fall into, if you are reading this, I am thankful for you!
So, I hope you all have a fantastic Thanksgiving full of love, laughter and delicious food! And I hope you take a moment to think about among the many ways in which you were blessed this year, what stands out the most?
